FIDIC 2009 LONDON Conference. Global Challenges – Sustainable Solutions
FIDIC 2009 London explores the role of engineers in the delivery of sustainable solutions to our global challenges. The aim will be to identify and plan the actions needed to position the consulting engineering industry as a leader in providing viable and effective solutions.
Not only will the conference be addressing the financial crisis, but also key issues such as climate change, urbanisation, energy efficiency, and water resources, amongst others. The world, as never before, is crying out for leadership and professional advice. This industry is well placed to offer that leadership.
Under the theme Industry Challenges and Responses, the business programme gets underway with leading personalities reviewing the global challenges and the need for our industry to take action. Speakers giving the client's perspective are Brian Bruce, Murray & Roberts, South Africa, Keith Clarke, WS Atkins, UK, Petter Eiken, Skanska, Norway, and Ian Tyler, Balfour Beatty, UK. To encourage participation and discussion, following comments by panelists, the floor will be turned over to the participants.
Under the theme Geographic and Sector Hot Spots, conference will adopt a similar format, with a plenary session examining regions and sectors where there are the best opportunities for our industry to lead. The business sessions that follow will focus on specific regions and sectors needing massive investments in infrastructure.
Business sessions will explore how to create A More Agile, Responsive, High Profile Industry to ensure that engineers take the lead in solving the global challenges. The conference will also focus on the role of FIDIC and its members associations and firms to positioning the engineering community to be at the forefront of delivering sustainable solutions to global challenges. Speakers will review what the industry is currently doing, is planning to do, and should be doing to ensure that engineers lead the way.
